New Digital Business Models

CMI commissioned by CCSkilss to help develop a clear understanding of new digital business models.

CMI was commissioned by CCSkills, the Sector Skills Council for the creative and cultural industries to carry out a study which would develop a clear understanding of new Digital Business Models and provide a framework tool to identify and analyse opportunities and threats arising from these models. The project identified responses to two key questions: What are the new business models creative industries are facing and working with in the digital sector? How has the digital environment changed the creative industries?
CMI developed a framework which encapsulated the key drivers, enables and dimensions of digital business models which could be used as the basis for identifying opportunities and threats to the sector in Wales – covering technological trends and drivers, changes in the global and domestic competitive market, alternative delivery models, the regulatory context, consumer sophistication and preferences and the globalisation of the creative industries. The final report included national and international digital business model case studies in the creative industries and a discussion paper which included a framework for understanding and assessing digital business models.
