Consultation for an Environment & Sustainability Research Institute

Identifying potential research areas and commercial opportunities for the South West Economy.

A study to identify potential research areas, commercial opportunities and the potential impact that siting a world-class ESI in Cornwall could have on the South West economy. This involved a review of existing world-class investment and infrastructure in this area in Europe and the USA, together with the collection of high-level evidence from expert groups. The latter took the form of extensive one-to-one interviews with representatives of public research funding bodies, industry, civil society and government followed by an expert workshop and extensive interactions with local stakeholders. This work resulted in a document that significantly clarified the strategic framework within which the Convergence partners in Cornwall could consider the investment in an ESI and an outline Commissioning document that was subsequently taken forward by the Convergence Partnership.
